What are my activities in this job?
Medical assistants support doctors with treatments and examinations. They work at the interface between doctor and patient, health and disease, and between prevention and cure. They are also responsible for preparation and follow-up work in the treatment room. They support and advise patients.
They also carry out organizational tasks and administrative work. This means, for example, creating practice procedures, making appointments, receiving patients, documenting patient contact and billing health insurance companies.

Where can I work?
Medical assistants primarily find work in medical practices, institutions and organisations in the healthcare sector, outpatient nursing services, health centres and hospitals. In addition, medical assistants can work in company medical departments, medical laboratories or research departments of pharmaceutical companies.
What requirements must I meet?
- Intermediate school-leaving qualification or
- Successful completion of a ten-year programme of education & training that follows the first general education school leaving certificate.
- General medical fitness
- With A-levels/vocational diploma, equivalent training or completed training in a health profession, it is possible to shorten the training period by one year.
