In the generalist nursing training, the three previously separate training programmes for geriatric nursing, health care and nursing, and health care and paediatric nursing are merged into a uniform occupational profile with the professional qualification of nursing specialist.

The training lasts three years full-time, but you can also complete it as part-time training in up to five years. The training is divided into a school-based part (min. 2,100 hours) and a practical part (min. 2,500 hours).

Initially, all trainees receive generalist training for two years together, after which you can decide whether you would like to obtain a separate degree in geriatric nursing or health and paediatric nursing, depending on the focus you have agreed on in your training contract. However, you can also continue to opt for generalist training. In this case, you continue on this path in the third year of training and obtain the degree of nursing specialist.

Nursing specialists plan, document and carry out nursing measures; they also implement medical prescriptions independently. The activities vary depending on the specialisation and field of application. In generalist nursing training, the three training programmes of geriatric nursing, health care and nursing as well as health care and paediatric nursing are combined into a uniform occupational profile with the professional qualification of nursing specialist.
