What is the content of the course of studies?

The degree programme is interdisciplinary and interprofessional. Important contents from the subject areas of health sciences, informatics and economics are taught. In addition, social and research skills are dealt with in practical scenarios. Seminar-based teaching forms characterise the study programme.

Where can I find employment later on?

Potential employers are all institutions that have a place in the digital health sector, i.e. healthcare providers (including hospitals), health insurers, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, companies in the hardware and software industry, associations, chambers, universities and health policy. Not least to be mentioned are start-ups, which have a high share in the current dynamics in the health sector.

Concrete places of employment are, for example:

      • Medical technology companies
      • Pharmaceutical companies
      • Software companies (app developers)
      • Statutory health insurance companies and private health insurers
      • Hospitals, outpatient health care facilities and nursing homes
      • Public/governmental institutions (authorities, associations)

The future prospects are excellent. The digitisation of the German healthcare system is at the top of the agenda. Without this development, the German healthcare system will achieve neither the quality nor the efficiency goals. Since the development “actually” only began in 2016, there is still a long way to go, which our graduates can and should help shape in a wide variety of places. A look at job portals shows the growing demand in this segment, especially since such an interdisciplinary education is not reflected in the classic degree programmes. Our students report that they are already involved in practice as working students and experience an uninterrupted transition into professional life.

In what fields/subject areas can I work?

Graduates of the master’s programme DIGITAL HEALTH MANAGEMENT support the digital transformation of the German healthcare system. They develop, test, implement and monitor digital solutions based on an interdisciplinary understanding of the processes. You can say that you moderate and lead these change processes!

Helping to shape and drive the digital transformation process in the health sector is the overarching educational goal of the Master’s programme in Digital Health Management. While the focus in healthcare institutions is increasingly on strategic issues, the development on the part of IT producers and service providers also offers enormous potential. As a digital health manager, you can mediate at the interface of product and health system and help digital applications gain market access.

Note: The start-up scene in the German health landscape is growing. Many young companies are working on patient-related services. The possibility of also being able to place apps via prescriptions, i.e. in the 1st health market, opens up exciting prospects for new business models. Here, too, many options open up for you to actively shape the healthcare system of the future.

      What are the entry requirements?

      • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, computer science or management
      • Authorisation to study in Master’s degree programmes in accordance with § 39 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG).
