WHAT ARE MY ACTIVITIES IN THIS JOB?
Care assistants with a focus on home and family care provide basic care and support for people with a special need. These include, above all, people who are ill, senior citizens and people with disabilities. They help with personal hygiene, dressing and undressing and serving food. They motivate people to exercise and occupy themselves.
Teaching takes place in learning fields with the areas of nursing, nutrition, home economics, care and administration.

If you have received the “note of equivalence with the Realschulabschluss”, you can change to other training occupations, such as generalist nursing training (GeP) or directly (without training as a social pedagogical assistant) to educator training.
WHERE CAN I WORK?
Care assistants with a focus on home and family care often work as employees or self-employed in institutions such as:
• Home-based business
• Families
• Day care centres for children
• Outpatient and inpatient facilities
• Institutions for the disabled
• Residential communities for people of all ages in need for care
WHAT REQUIREMENTS MUST I MEET?
- Advanced technical college entrance qualification/ higher education entrance qualification or
- Intermediate school leaving certificate or
- First general school leaving certificate
- Proof of main residence in Hamburg, extended certificate of good conduct without any entries.
- Further requirements are the completion of the 16th year of age in the year of application, and health suitability. Beyond that, there must be no initial training.
HOW MUCH WILL THE TRAINING COST?
Those who meet the requirements can apply for a training grant (BAföG).
